ABOUT GI SHRINKAGE

Most cotton gis will shrink 5-7% after the first few washes in warm/hot water. Pearl weave gis typically shrink less than single weave. To minimize shrinkage, wash in cold water and hang dry. If your gi is too large, washing in warm water and machine drying can intentionally shrink it.

HOW TO FIND THE RIGHT BJJ GI SIZE

Finding the right gi size is crucial for comfort and competition legality. A gi that's too large gives your opponent more grips, while one that's too small restricts movement and may not meet IBJJF uniform requirements.

BJJ gis typically come in sizes A0 through A6, with some brands offering "L" (long) and "H" (husky) variants for taller or heavier practitioners. The A1-A3 range covers most adult males, while A0-A2 is common for adult females.

When choosing between sizes, consider your body proportions. If you have long arms and legs relative to your torso, consider the L variant. If you carry more weight in your midsection, an H variant or sizing up may be more comfortable.

Different brands have different cuts - competition brands like Shoyoroll and Origin run slimmer, while brands like Fuji have a more relaxed fit. Always check brand-specific size charts when possible.
